Position Description: Director of Youth Ministry
Status: Part-Time (20-25 hours per week), Salary negotiable
Benefits: Not Applicable for part-time employees
General Purpose and Expectations of the Position:
The primary focus of the Director of Youth Ministry is to grow young disciples of Christ by
implementing relational ministry strategies that seek to nurture the full spiritual development of
young people in grades 7-12.
To be a successful leader, the Director of Youth Ministry will be able to:
• Coordinate and facilitate opportunities for young people to grow in their faith and
commitment to Christ.
• Build meaningful relationships with young people in grades 7-12.
• Support the full spiritual development of young people through relational ministry strategies.
• Promote community and belonging between young people and the broader church family.
• Serve as a spiritual role model for young people.
• Be a worshipping presence in Sunday services.
• Make connections with children of all ages, not just those participating in youth ministries.
Organizational Relationship and Supervision:
The Director of Youth Ministry reports directly to the Senior Pastor. The Director of Youth Ministry
also works in coordination with other administrative staff, in order to ensure synchronization and
cooperation across the various Grace Church ministries. The Director of Youth Ministry will be
responsible and subject to United Methodist polity and doctrine, informed by the United Methodist
Guidelines for Youth Ministries, local church policy as determined by the Charge Conference,
Senior Pastor, and the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Core Areas of Ministry Focus:
Discipleship:
• Grace United Methodist Youth (GUMY): Organize and facilitate weekly community
building activities during the school year and intermittent summer gatherings to help
young people to find belonging in the community of Christ
• Sunday Morning Small Group (LIFT): Create and implement a structured plan for faith
education and Biblical literacy
• Fall Retreat: Coordinate a fall retreat for young people to deepen personal faith
commitments, practice spiritual disciplines, and develop connections with fellow disciples
• Growth: Foster an environment of acceptance and support that both (1)
encourages participation of new youth members and (2) supports youth in
developing and growing their leadership skills.
• Service: Coordinate youth involvement in opportunities both independent of and in
conjunction with ongoing congregational opportunities for mission and service.
Administration:
• Recruit, train, and build relationships with adults to support them as teachers and
active participants in the faith development of the young people
• Maintain, support, and continue to develop a team of youth and adult volunteers,
recruiting and training new team members as needed, to assist in the execution of
administrative tasks including: event planning, refreshments, attendance, social media
presence, Band App Communication, and fundraising.
• Select teaching materials for all above youth gatherings, coordinating with other staff if
necessary
• Work closely with other church staff, particularly the Communications Specialist and
Operations Manager, to coordinate facility usage, calendaring, and communication
• Manage youth ministry budget and spending in coordination with the Finance
Committee
Congregational Engagement:
• Participate in monthly staff and leadership meetings
• Complete assigned duties from Senior Pastor in related ministry areas.
Candidates should possess several years of experience in the ministry areas noted above and
should demonstrate the ability to meet the aforementioned expectations.
This part-time position has the potential to expand to full-time status in the future, based on
ministry growth, organizational needs, and demonstrated performance.

GUMY: Grace United Methodist Youth, serves students grades 7-12
LIFT: Sunday morning small group for students grades 7-12 (Grade 7 youth exploring
Confirmation meet separately January to May in a small group on Sunday mornings
